Marathons and motivations
Sipping chai in Permit Room’s vibey breakfast room, we sat down with four locals (heroes, in our eyes) prepping for the upcoming marathon. We chatted about their motivations for running and the charities they're supporting.

"I’m supporting the FMG Project, which is on a mission to empower young people in their health and wellbeing by providing free access to coaching in a quality gym facility. I've struggled with mental health, and over the last three years, it's slowly healing itself since I joined my AFL club. It's given me structure, confidence and a supportive community. Knowing that FMG is doing this for young people is particularly meaningful to me." – JAMES SUTTON
"FMG Project is a charity very close to my heart – I helped set up the charity project and programmes we run, over two and a half years ago. We aim to support local young people who face barriers to participation in sport and exercise and do this through a combination of gym-based training and mindset coaching, at our state-of-the-art gym facility in central Brighton – supporting around 100 young people each year through our coaching programmes." – SAM CROCKER-GREEN
"I began work for Team Domenica nearly a year ago now and love the work they do. Being able to assist young adults with learning difficulties, gain independence, employability skills and hopefully at the end of their time with us – employment, is a great privilege. My role is specifically teaching those enrolled in the program how to bake, in one of our three cafes throughout the city!" – BEN SMITH
"I'm running for the Clock Tower Sanctuary – which is the only youth homelessness centre in Brighton. It's personal to me as I have experience of homelessness as a young person, and I have benefited greatly from their service in the past." – EMILY CONDON
